Linda Edna Cardellini was born in Redwood City, California, to Lorraine (Hernan) and Wayne David Cardellini, a businessman. Linda is Italian (from her paternal grandfather), Irish (from her mother), German, English and Scottish descent. Linda was the youngest of four children in San Francisco Bay, California. After her successful performance as Lady Rose MacClare on the period drama Downton Abbey from 2012 to 2015, her first breakthrough role was in the movie fantasy Cinderella in the year 2015. James went on to portray Countess Natasha Rostova in the television adaptation of War & Peace (2016) as well as starring in various films. These included the action movie Baby Driver (2017), the period dramas Darkest Hour (2017), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018) and The Dig (2021), as well as the musicals Mamma Mia!
